About the Manaferra AI Index

What is the Manaferra AI Index? It measures how AI assistants mention US universities and their programs: ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity. We ask a large set of tracked student questions, record the answers, and publish scores and rankings.

How is the score calculated? Our method is explained in full at https://ai.manaferra.com/methodology.

How often is it updated? A new edition is published every month. Each figure belongs to the edition shown next to it.

Does a high score mean a university is better? No. The Index shows what AI assistants say about a university, not its educational quality, accreditation or admissions outcomes.

Why does a university have no score, or very little data? Some schools are mentioned too rarely by the AI assistants we track to build a reliable profile. Their page says so. This can change in later editions as coverage grows.

Why did a figure change from one edition to the next? AI assistants change their answers often, and each edition measures them again. Use the edition menu on a university’s profile to compare.

Corrections

I think a figure or a detail is wrong. What do I do? Email us with the page, the figure, and why you think it is wrong. We review every request, correct what is wrong, and tell you the outcome.

The Manaferra AI Index app for ChatGPT

What can I ask it? For example:

How do I add it?

1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins.
2. Search for Manaferra AI Index and add it.
3. In a chat, select it from the + menu, or type @Manaferra AI Index.

Do I need an account? No. The app shows the public Manaferra AI Index data and needs no sign-in.

The answer in ChatGPT looks different from the website. ChatGPT writes its answers itself, using our data. The figures on https://ai.manaferra.com are the reference. If they differ, please tell us the question you asked.

The app doesn’t respond or shows an error.

1. Try again in a new chat.
2. If it keeps happening, email us the question you asked and the time it happened.

How do I remove it? In ChatGPT, open Plugins, select Manaferra AI Index and remove it.

For university staff

Claiming your university’s profile University staff can request to manage their institution’s profile at https://ai.manaferra.com/claim. We check every request before approving it. To withdraw a claim, email us from the address you used.
